Easy In The Night

I'm working on the verses
To a song we sang when we were young
And freedom seemed so easy in the night
A lonesome tide of feeling
Washes over me
The ceiling's crossed with shadows
From a single burning light
I don't know if writing poetry
Or singing songs can keep me free
From feeling just like last night's empty bed
You're more than just a word to me
More than songs could ever be
More than just a line inside my head

Take it easy, take it slow
Every line I write is telling me
I always knew you'd go

So I'm working on the verses
To a song we sang when we were young
And freedom seemed so easy in the night
Every verse a memory,
A chain that binds the past to me
And freedom isn't anywhere in sight
I don't know if writing poetry
Or singing songs can keep me free
From feeling just like last night's empty bed
You're more than just a word to me
More than songs could ever be
More than just a line inside my head
