Stand and Fight

Well, my daddy taught me how to shoot,
my uncle how to kill
and I'm standing in this rocky crag
looking down the hill.
I'm waiting for a stranger
as he's walking up the slope
and the man don't know the danger
got the target in my scope

Stand and fight
Cut and run
Bring a knife
Bring a gun
Can you tell me
what we're fighting for?
Damn your politics.
Damn your wars.

Well the sun was shining brightly
when the man came into view
and although he dressed in funny clothes
he looked like me or you
It would only take a single shot
to bring that hadji down.
As I squinted through my rifle scope
This is what I found

I saw Jesus in his face
I saw Buddha in his eyes
I saw Allah and the Virgin Mary
walking side by side
and I heard a choir singing
as the heavens opened wide
and I know that it's not manly
but I just broke down and cried

Stand and fight
Cut and run
Bring a knife
Bring a gun
Can you tell me
What we're fighting for?
Damn your politics.
Damn your wars.

Well I never felt the bullet hit
but suddenly the pain
made me turn and look above me
at another rocky crag.
I could see his head and then his gun,
there was something really wrong
and as my eyes grew hazy
I heard him sing this song

Stand and fight
Cut and run
Bring a knife
Bring a gun
Can you tell me
What we're fighting for?
Damn your politics
Damn your wars.

I saw Jesus in his face
I saw Buddha in his eyes
I saw Allah and the Virgin Mary
walking side by side
and I heard a choir singing
as the heavens opened wide
and I swear as he reloaded
the man broke down and cried.

Stand and fight
Cut and run
Bring a knife
Bring a gun
Can you tell me
What we're fighting for?
Damn your politics
Damn your wars.
